The New England Patriots are making some big changes before the new football season starts.

They’re trading their quarterback, Mac Jones, to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It’s sad for Jones because he had a good start last year, helping the Patriots get to the playoffs and even playing in the Pro Bowl. But things went wrong after that.

In his second year, Jones didn’t do as well. The Patriots changed their coaching staff, and it seemed like it affected Jones’ performance.

He didn’t throw as many touchdowns, and the team missed the playoffs. He also got hurt during a game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Then, in his third year, things got even worse. Even though they got a new offensive coordinator, Jones struggled a lot.

He lost his starting spot to another quarterback named Bailey Zappe for the last few games of the season. The team’s offense didn’t do well overall.

But now, Jones is going back to his hometown to play for the Jaguars. It should be nice for him to be close to home again.

He’ll be the backup to Trevor Lawrence, who was the first overall pick in the same draft as Jones.

With Jones gone, the Patriots need a new quarterback.

They have a couple of options already on the team, but they might also look for someone new in free agency. Some names being talked about are Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew.

And there are bigger names like Kirk Cousins and Baker Mayfield who might be available too.

The Patriots also have a high pick in the upcoming draft. Many people think they’ll use it to get a new quarterback.

Two names that keep coming up are Drake Maye from UNC and Jayden Daniels from LSU. Whoever they pick, they’ll be hoping for someone who can be a star for years to come.
